Throughout trauma, abuse, addictions and brain injuries; I have found the peace and serenity of creating to be my medicine. When intuition takes over and creativity flows freely, a process of healing begins. My work draws out the energy stuck in the past, to deal with those emotions in the present and healing for a better future. As a child, I said that my favorite toy was mud. I was drawn to water, trees, rocks and animals. I braided crowns from dandelions and enjoyed creating as much as I possibly could. As an adult, I can't say too much of that has changed. I must never forget where I came from, and stick to my roots. I am honored to be able to help others through my stories and my work.
I created this horse in a college ceramics class. It is the middle of a series I did of the evolution of the horse, at the stage of the Merychippus. I created this horse in a college ceramics class. It is the middle of a series I did of the evolution of the horse, at the stage of the Merychippus. It combines my love for horses, history, science and art... with a little blue magical touch to bring out my love for the mystic and mysterious. The red hair for the mane and tail is the same type of hair I have braided into my own hair. Growing up around horses, I know how healing these magnificent creatures are. My grandparents had a farm with many horses. I helped my veterinarian grandfather take care of them and rode every chance I got. After his passing from brain cancer, I wanted to follow in his footsteps. In 2009 after being in the psych ward of a hospital for the second time, I left my Equestrian Studies classes to get my degree in Art. While in the hospital, I learned how to connect with people and helped other patients heal through art. Horses and many other animals have taught me much of what I know today. I pass on lessons I have learned in the healing I do for others as well.
Three day old Ducky... yep... that's me! I came into this world highly empathetic and intuitive, picking up on the energies of everything and everyone around me. Three day old Ducky... yep... that's me! I came into this world highly empathetic and intuitive, picking up on the energies of everything and everyone around me. I longed to have someone who understood, to teach and guide me. More importantly, I wanted to know that I was not crazy and I was not alone. It was a normal thing throughout my life for me to squint my eyes around certain lighting or noises. It was normal for me to feel like a claw was latching on to my right eyeball. It was normal for me to feel like someone was punching me from inside my head. All of these and many more is why I coped the way I did. I was already biting and hitting myself as an infant and toddler, add drinking at six, drugs after being raped at eight, pills, cutting and burning and more after that. In between all that, I felt at peace whenever I could create or spend time with animals. The healing I have gone through from all the physical and emotional trauma has been miraculous. I absolutely love helping those who are willing to put in the work for their own healing.
